Resumes often miss the mark. They're tough to read and just can't give you a true picture of who I am.
I've been a front end web developer for over 15 years. I started On Purpose Design in 2003 as a boutique website 'design & build' business back in 2003.
Today, I provide those same services for businesses in between work responsibilities. It has always been my way of staying connected to customers - to real people, something I don't always enjoy in employment roles.
While my focus has been on the front end, I've approached the tasks differently than most. I typically eschew tools like Typescript and Bootstrap, preferring deep learning of javascript and CSS instead. There's no substitute for really knowing the code, without these kinds of 'helpers'. I watched the industry grow dependent on jQuery (without knowing the underlying javascript) and it feels like it is happening again.
While I'm interested in actual HTML structure (versus a mess of nested 'divs'), and while I have deep understanding of the 'cascade' part of CSS, I'm not limited in my knowledge in the front end.
I'm a very adept at video creation and editing, music composition, image development and optimization, and I even dabble in hand-coded SVG. Learning the actual mechanics of these technologies has always interested me.
I have a diverse set of interests and knowledge areas and consider myself well-rounded in many different areas.
I have opinions on software development, optimization, reducing dependencies, reducing 'unknowns', and building strong cross-browser, cross-device experiences.
I can lead a small team, provide mentorship and guidance, resolve display and layout errors, and will work to eliminate unneeded dependencies and files in the website. My specialty is getting the page as lightweight as possible for the fastest loading.
